Recycle to Eradicate Poverty and Protect the Environment!

It's just like recycling aluminum cans or bottles. Every year, hundreds of millions of cell phones and inkjet cartridges are thrown into our nation's landfills. In addition to putting toxic chemicals into our earth, these phones and cartridges take up valuable space and waste priceless resources.

According to the national environmental research organization INFORM, electronic waste items such as cell phones are laden with hazardous substances called persistent bioaccumulative and toxic chemicals (PBTs). These chemicals include arsenic, antimony, beryllium, cadmium, copper, lead, nickel and zinc. In the trash these chemicals escape into the air, land and water and accumulate in the fatty tissues of animals and humans. If released in our landfills, these materials could contaminate surrounding soil and groundwater. PBTs are thought to cause damage to the nervous system, reproductive and developmental problems as well as cancer.

One cell phone that ends up in the landfill can leach into the soil and pollute up to 132,000 liters of our drinking water! Cell phones contain no less than eight toxic substances, including beryllium, arsenic, and lead. There are over 500 million used cell phones in homes across the United States. Every month almost 10 million cell phones are retired and less than 4% are recycled.

It is the mission of this recycling program to prevent these items from entering our landfills. We collect these items, recycle them and all the profits from our recycling efforts go to support the fight to eradicate poverty.

 Our Mission

To make our planet a safer place to live by eradicating poverty and keeping toxic items out of our landfills and providing a no-cost recycling program, so anyone, anywhere from any economic status can participate.

How It Works

For every item recycled through this program a donation is made to The Chiapas Project. The Chiapas Project can receive up to a $1 for every used inkjet cartridge and from $1 to $300 for every used cell phone we collect. A collection box is put into your place of business and employees bring in their used cell phones and ink jet cartridges. 100% of the proceeds will benefit The Chiapas Project.

Everyone Can Participate

By making this small commitment everyone can make an impact on our environment and the lives of others.

The Chiapas Project - Recycle to Eradicate Poverty program gives us the opportunity to preserve the environment for our children while helping families rise from poverty with dignity. We are proud supporters and look forward to your participation.

You can get involved by setting up a collection site at your company.
